Broken Wheat Upma

  1. Broken wheat – 500 grams
  2. Chicken small piece – 750 grams
  3. Large onion – 1 ( sliced)
  4. Tomato – 1 (sliced)
  5. Ginger garlic paste- – 1 tablespoon
  6. Coconut oil – 1 tablespoon
  7. Curry leaves – 1 spring
  8. Coriander leaves – 1/4 cup
  9. Ghee – 1 tablespoon
  10. Chilli powder – 1 teaspoon
  11. Coriander powder – 1 1/4 teaspoon
  12. Garam masala – 1tablespoon
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Lemon juice – 1 teaspoon

METHOD

Heat up a pressure cooker. Add oil  followed by onions and ginger garlic paste. Once the onion changes its colour to golden brown add ingredients from 7 – 14 and cook well. Once the oil is separated from the masala add chicken and saute for 3 – 4 minutes. Add 4 – 5 cups of hot water in the chicken masala followed by the broken wheat. Check the salt and spice level at this time and adjust if needed. Close the pressure cooker and cook for 1 whistle. Open the pressure cooker after 10 minutes and drizzle ghee on top of it and serve it hot. According to our choices we can replace chicken (source of protein) with paneer, lean beef, soya chunks in this dish.
